Flood cleanup in Joliet is a different job from a burst pipe. Floodwater carries soil, fuel, lawn chemicals and sewage from overwhelmed storm systems, so we handle it as Category 3 no matter how clear it looks.
The Des Plaines River runs right through town, and Hickory Creek and the DuPage River both push water into low ground when a slow storm stalls over Will County. The heavy clay soil across the area doesn't absorb much. Yards pond, window wells fill, and water finds the joint between the foundation wall and the basement slab.
Our crew starts with pumps and truck-mounted extraction to get the standing water out. Then we remove wet carpet, pad, drywall and insulation, usually cutting drywall two feet above the high water mark so the wall cavity can dry. Silt and mud get shoveled out and washed off the slab. We disinfect the remaining surfaces and set dehumidifiers and air movers for drying.
Photos come first, before anything is moved. Damage from rising outside water is usually covered only by a separate flood policy, not a regular homeowners policy, so the records matter. See claim documentation help for how we handle that.
